Doctor Who Scarf, Wool Yarn, Knitting-Crocheting = More Yarn?

I want to crochet a Doctor Who scarf. I have pictures, I have knitting instructions which I will use to base my scarf off of, all I need is the yarn.

All the followings colors seem to be a decent match (I went off the Brown Sheep colors suggested by the DoctorWhoScarf.com, as they were probably more true-to-life than the screenshots) on this monitor at least.

I think I should go darker on the green because even though it matches the shade decently, I feel it's too similar to the other brown/gray colors.

What do you guys think? Ultimately it might not matter the shade, really.

(Also, any other suggestions as far as decent but somewhat inexpensive wool yarn are appreciated. I was told I'll have to buy more yarn than the suggested amount for knitting, as crochet takes more yarn, but just how much will I have buy over the recommendations?)
