craftgrrl | a question for you beaders and jewelers

i've looked through the faq/memories and i've looked online for some ideas but i'm stumped.

I bought this pendant (or whatever you want to call it) a year ago at an Appalachian heritage festival in Kentucky. The artist normally was a potter but he decided to try something with jewelry. He took one of those large marbles and melted it in his kiln. this is the result.

neat-o, eh? it also came with matching earrings made from much smaller marbles.

but my problem is, i don't know what to do with it. i've tried making several varieties of necklaces with it and they always end up looking rubbish. :-/ i love this and want to wear it to and fro... alas, i lack the skills.

so i'm wondering if any of you amazing jewelers and beaders (i know you're out there! i've seen your work!) would have some advice, specific types of beads, styles, etc. to offer me. thanks in advance for any help you have!!!
also, i should mention that, since it is a melted marble, it is rather heavy. i don't know if that factors into jewelry design, i just wanted to give all the information that i have. i've thought maybe a multi-strand necklace of some sort which might give the weight of the pendant some support. thanks again!
