A friend of mine in NC requested a custom piece for a friend of hers' who lost her baby due to complications after childbirth. The little girl's middle name would have been running bird, so she requested a silver pendant with a little baby bird taking off into flight.

The birdie necklace is the one on the left; it has 3 bird prints behind it because in Chinese symbolism, the number 3 represents living forever - even though she lost her little girl, she will always be/live on in her mom's heart. The pendant hangs from a simple red satin ribbon (red thread symbolism: Chinese believe that an invisible red thread connects two souls meant to be together; no matter where the souls are, they remain connected, and if lost, are destined to find each other again.) I was soo glad she approved the design so quickly; my husband and I are about to move and my hot pot isn't allowed in the apt. complex (fire code stuff); so I won't be able to work with silver (well, at least fire it) until after Christmas when I buy a kiln.

The pendant on the right is a silver carving of a dogwood (both pendants were treated with egg to oxidize parts of the pieces). It's on a nice looong piece of Greek leather (beautiful - I might keep it myself!). Kind of my take on the cross shape.
