Mar. 15th, 2003 12:30 amI finished my first purse today!
It took about 5 hours or so because I was kind of making it up as I went along, not to mention the fact that I don't have a sewing machine.
I basically took two pieces of fabric the "good" fabric and the lining. I cut them to the same size and folded them over with the lining fabric on the outside, then I sewed up the sides leaving about two inches at the top, then I folded the good fabric over at the top and sewed it down. I turned it right side out so the good fabric was on the outside and then sewed on the handles and buttons. I still need to put in some velcro or something to hold the purse closed.
Next time I'll use a more canvasy fabric for the lining so the purse will keep it's shape better when held by the straps.
the straps are drapery tie backs, they naturally ended in loops, which I sewed to the purse and then sewed on a black sparkly button to hide the loop.

here's a close-up of the button

For the lining I used a grey fabric I grabbed from the remnant bin

sorry about the horrible scanner pic, those of us without a webcam must make do.
