So I finally got my sewing machine today - a Brother XL5130 and I read through the instructions and then start getting things all threaded up. I manage to get the bobbin filled - and that's about all that went successfully. D:
I put the bobbin in and I pull it up through the plate. I think I have that much right? Although I wasn't 100% sure that I put the bobbin in it's little holder right (I couldn't follow the instructions so well).
And I'll just put all the descriptions and pictures behind the cut.

So then I there's the stringing the thread through the top of the machine and down through the needle:

(Sideways, sorry.)
And this is where things went downhill.
I attempted to do a straight stitch - I set all the knobbies and things, and while I don't know really how to set-up a sewing machine, I do know the (very, very) basics of using one. Unfortunately, I can't get it to work.
When I first start to sew, it may put in a stitch, but then the it'll just continue on punching holes - no thread going through - because the thread will pull itself out of the needle. So I think it has something to do with how I set up the top portion of the machine (or maybe the lower bobbin is jacked-up, too). I have no idea.
If anybody could possibly give me any ideas on what to try next, I'd really appreciate it!
