Babies are scary

Hey Everyone, sorry about the text only,

I'm going to a baby shower for a close friend in a couple weeks and I thought a cute addition to the gift would be a few cute little personalized onesies. I had a few designs in mind and should this be a normal adult shirt I'd Sharpie them on, but then I started freaking out that the Sharpie on the onesie might hurt the baby. Will it? Are there any materials I should definitely use or not use? Is fabric paint okay to use? I don't want to kill my new little niece or nephew with my lack of baby knowledge.
