Last week, while walking in the park with my daughter, we were picking some violets for a vase. We (which means I) started talking about the name violet and how it was very pretty. I decided I needed to make a doll named Violet for my little one.

I searched for a simple doll online and found the dolly hugs pattern.

The pattern suggests you enlarge it so the doll is 14", but I didn't have a copier machine and didn't want to be bothered, so she's only about 6-10 inches, which is practically perfect for my little 2 and a half year old's arms to hold her.

I cut the pattern from one of my daughter's shirts that had a rip in it, stuffed it with the guts from a pillow, sewed her a simple dress with a belt, painted her face with fabric paints and voila! Violet!

felt hair, and face with lavender eyes, a grey-purple nose and purple mouth.

she's even got some panties that they recommended using a sock for...
I'll probably make her a different pair in a prettier style later.
It was 3am when I finished and was too tired to do them better than this.

in all, I'm pretty pleased with her.

I'll probably make more eventually and actually enlarge the pattern.
They're designed to "hug" the child with their raised arms and "kiss" them on the face as well. The legs are bent so they can "kneel to pray" or "romp and play" as the website puts it.

She even got to ride the carousel yesterday while we celebrated our mutual birthdays.
