owl birthday cake
Nov. 15th, 2007 12:06 amif this is an inappropriate post, i'll delete it, but i made this cake for my dad tonight for his 58th birthday and was so excited about how it turned out that i wanted to share it with you creative fantismos. cake decorating is a craft right? kind of a stretch? drat!

sorry for the low res picture, i'm down to using my cell phone has a camera after my digital broke, and my dad lives in a hobbit hole, so light is precious and rare. :D
this cake was really easy to make. I just made two round cakes with a cake mix from the store. I frosted the sides of the cake with pecan and coconut frosting and used chocolate cake to make a kind of german chocolate treat.
i used white frosting for the face, just barely putting a little of the german chocolate frosting on the sides of the face and the top to add a little definition. then i used two dried pineapple rings for the eyes and two chocolate covered coffee beans for the pupils and a nutty bar section cut into a triangle for the beak. for the feathers i used sliced almonds. it was a complete hit for my dad who is an owl lover, and for my son and my sister's kids too!
