When all else fails... Weave!
Dec. 11th, 2007 02:54 pmFriends are coming on Wednesday evening for our Seasonal Gift Swap (and for a girlie catch up). I thought I had more time to assemble "S's" son's gift. Ut Oh! They're cooooming!
OK, no time to learn to make beanies. A(nother) scarf will have to do!
I love the way this looked
http://loxosceles.org/crafty/cross_stitch_skull_cap.html
and since I can cross-stitch and embroider, I figured it would be a doddle to add it after-the-fact.
ummm, no.
No matter what I did (satin stitch, whip stitch) I couldn't get both sides to look good at the same time.
After giving up on the cool skull idea (and the HazMat symbol idea and the flames idea and the dragon head idea *sigh*) I settled on something that would look OK on both sides...

He's in his very early 20s and Emo (or Goth or something else I'm not cool or young enough to understand). I'm pretty sure he'll like it. As you can see, I weaved the red and white chunky yarns into the bands I had created for the original purpose of cross-stitching
On a different note, I've tried a recipe I stumbled across here
http://www.planetjune.com/blog/diet-coke-cakes/
(Thank you, PlanetJune :) )
Here's what mine looks like pre-icing

It's a Lemon Sponge and it looks good so far. I'll update when we've actually -tasted- it tomorrow night ;)
