Aaah! Crochet pattern help!

I haven't crocheted with a pattern in ages, and my brain can't wrap around row two...

"Ch 2, turn, *dc in each st to ch 1 sp, inc (2dc, ch 1, 2dc) in ch sp, repeat from * across ending dc in each st to end of row."

I'm to double-crochet in the first chain space, then increase in the next space, and continue doing so? Increasing every-other space? that just seems like an awful lot of increasing, so I'm not sure if I'm reading it right. Can any one translate?
