Jan. 5th, 2008 09:59 amHere are a few little Christmas crafts I made! (Sadly, I did not photograph any of the gifts I made to give away, and I went for entirely handmade gifts this year, being totally broke.)

I made a few of these ornaments out of plain glass balls. I used round stickers (and the sticky papers with the round holes that surrounds them) to stencil circles or negative-space circles, and then used etching cream to get the frosted effect. These are actually clear, but look pink because my Christmas tree lights were pink. For some reason, these took forever, and I didn't end up finishing all twelve, but there's always next year.
I made these knitty ornaments after being inspired by this Craftster post. The only thing I think I did differently was to thread a bead onto the end of each "needle" to give it a more finished look. They were so easy and so much fun to make! (You can also see the frosted polka dot ornament in the cold, hard light of the flash in this one.)

I put together this swag to temporarily hide a cracked mirror. I'm aware that the swag looks vaguely threatening in this photo, but in real life it's quite nice:

These were hard to photograph, but, lacking any money for decorations, I beaded some glass beads onto fishing line and hung them on the tree. Then I battled the cat swatting at them for two solid weeks. This photograph was taken in a moment of uneasy truce. You can see that Bea Arthur has a piece of fake plastic pine needle near his eye, despite the fact that he is pretending he didn't just have his body wrapped around a limb trying to destroy it.

My l'il apartment-sized tree, with mostly homemade ornaments:
