Batz on spats!
Jan. 11th, 2008 01:58 pmOtherwise known as:
Reclaimed grannie boots turned spats.....
or:
I had a pair of granny boots which I adored, but they were jacked up from years of too much fun had while in them, and were also slightly too large.
But I could not bear to throw them away when a suitable replacement was found.
So instead of trashing them I turned them into some spats!
Right after I lopped off the tops and had turned the tounges into back pieces for the heel:

Right after I sewed on the heel piece and topstiched over that:

Color and pattern tests since why have plain black when you can have color?
First basic designs on a traced outline of the spats themselves on black construction paper, and some paint tests on the remainder of the shoes to see how the paint looked on the leather.

I then bound off the raw bottoms with a 1" strip of this absolutely terrible black leather I had some scraps of. It's all gone now, good riddance......

And put an elastic bit across the bottom so it doesn't spin around and keeps them held down.
Voila!

Pardon the poor shoe choice, my more suitable shoes are in storage.
Not true proper spats, but cute nonetheless.....and far better than throwing that lovely leather out!
