Jan. 30th, 2008 01:06 amOur wedding was on October 31, and we mostly had a Dia de Los Muertos theme going on.
It's basically the easiest thing ever- just sugar, meringue powder and water, molded and then allowed to dry. All the decorations are attached with royal icing, and you can pretty much stick whatever you like wherever you like with enough icing.

We made them all in an epic week-long process, aided by a few friends. It was unbelievably fun, but making and decorating about 80 sugar skulls is no small undertaking.

I made a unicorn, aided by Tim's awesome horn-rendering skills.

Colleen made Harry Potter, because she is a freaking miracle.
There are a ton more pictures of the skulls on Cyndi's flickr. Just click on my unicorn above and follow the photostream, little fishies!

We made some smaller skulls out of colored sugar that ended up on the cake table. They were very festive.

This is what they were surrounding. I'm pretty sure it's the best, most beautiful wedding cake anyone ever had. Because, you see, Colleen is a miracle. It's red velvet with cream cheese icing and real flowers (!!) and chocolate skulls and omg.
It was incredibly fun, and the skulls ended up looking really great in the reception hall. :D
