[identity profile] cheshcan.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] craftgrrl
Fiiinally getting around to posting some of the stuff I made for people this Christmas. All stencils and jewelry this year--I did make my sister a bag, but I never got around to taking a picture of it. Anyway, to pictures!

I was dying to find a place that sold clock gears, but I couldn't find any--and then I stumbled across this tiny junk store that sold old pocketwatch movements and wristwatch faces. Like MAGIC you guys, seriously. I only bought two movements, and I could only get one open to play with the guts. (I made the other into a pin that I didn't get around to taking a picture of, but it's pretty sweet.) Anyway, the result:

For [livejournal.com profile] waves_of_pants. You can probably tell that I had to solder jump rings to a lot of the pieces, because they didn't have convenient holes--this was my first big soldering project and I think it came out pretty fabulous. Those are antique screw-on earring findings, which I harvested from a pair of my grandmother's earrings--I got the earrings themselves and my dear steam-friend gets the posts, because her ears aren't pierced. Grandma would totally approve if she were still around.

You can see a bigger version of the above picture here.

For [livejournal.com profile] asscollection. My first shrinky-dink experience! I was unsure of the size and the color, but I think they came out pretty fucking adorable and pop-arty. Unfortunately I'm an idiot and I failed at taking a picture of them on a contrasting background, but I think you get the idea. They're fawn silhouettes!

For [livejournal.com profile] fridge_buzz_now. I found the charm at Shipwreck Beads, and I wasn't sure about it because it doesn't look a whole lot like Marilyn, but then I turned it over and my heart was won by her little booty:

It had to happen.

I used Jacquard textile paints for both of these (♥) and the usual freezer paper method of stenciling. Behold:

Also for [livejournal.com profile] fridge_buzz_now. Because there are a lot of official Radiohead tees floating around, in just about every design you could ask for, so I had to come up with one that they hadn't already used. But it seems like the kind of thing that'd appeal to your average Radiohead fan, you know?

For my girl [livejournal.com profile] rocknrollpsycho. Because there AREN'T any official Bernard Butler tees floating around, but his album booklets are full of these fantastic stencil-ready bits of art. I decided to try being a hipster and doing an off-center stencil, and it worked out well. (The name, if you were wondering, sits nicely on her chest, not directly on her boob.)

Okay, so I have no real explanation for catbone, but if he makes you smile you should check out Sconeborough: THE WEBCOMIC. The design is by [livejournal.com profile] silvertiger, who writes and draws Sconeborough and is generally awesome. The catbone concept was just one of those things that happen at 4 am, and really, he'll either delight you or he won't.

So all the people on my Christmas list got one this year. Because the catbone is connected to the catbone, you see.

I think that's all I'll force upon you. Kind-of-crossposted to my craftjournal, [livejournal.com profile] firingsquid. There are more projects over there, but my craftgrrl posts are more informative. The director's cut, if you will.
