okay, it's a simple little had, but still...
i made this hat in a fit of anger.

. the yarn is cheapo red heart yarn in a funky brown and white variegated colorscheme, and i wanted to see how it would knit up in an open knit. so i started it in a plain old basic lace pattern (over any odd number of stitches, k1, *yo, k2tog* repeat between* to end, every row.)

and was in a grumbly mood that day, and i really was only knitting to kind of settle my brain some. so i knitted, and pgrumbled, and knitted, and grumbled... and when i had about five inches of it, i was SICk of looking at it, SICK of my 10.5 bamboo needles, sick of everything to do with it, and just plain grumpy any old way. so i decreased a row or two, cast it off, and threw the mess on the floor. i grumped about the waste of yarn, the waste of time, the uselessness of knittin git to begin with, etc. etc.

and on a whim, i picked it back up and took a minute to seam the sides together. still grumbling, i ran a yarn through to pull the top closed. i yanked the resulting bag on my head and POUTED... and TheMan looked down at my huffy self and said, "hey! that's cute!"

i was stunned. cute? it was a mess of ick! and technically speaking, it's really now a well-crafted item... but i'll agree with Him. it IS cute. and it lightened my mood considerably. when i went to visit my friend Jenna, i took it with me, and gave it to her. it fits her head, and it was adorable. i certainly hope she actually wears it.

(sorry for the bad lighting.)

by the way, the yarn looks much better in linen stitch.

happy stitchery!
