Michael's craft stores.
Feb. 24th, 2008 07:51 pmMy mother who is a scrapbooking instructor at Michael's craft store, came home from work today with a heavy heart.
Michaels' is doing away with their classes:
Polymer clay, painting, Bob Ross, Beading, knitting, knifty knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, and more!
Corporate's projects, which happen to come packaged nicely in "kits," are taking place of the unique creativity of individual instructors.
If you had a kid's birthday party scheduled, too bad. They are canceling them as well.
Previously, the classes were created by the instructors, and they were driven by a comission-based system.
They are now getting rid of the instructors and replacing them with corporate sponsored make-n-takes premiering this fall.
Good news! Michael's is keeping the Wilton cake-decorating classes. Anybody ever looked at Wilton products, knows how much money those classes bring in!
This is all sudden too. The classes that are already scheduled, are being canceled. Just last night, my mother and I spent a long time working on coming up with projects for her to teach in April.
Now nobody is going to have a chance to create the fantastic scrapbook layouts, explosion box, altered clipboard, and "mom & me" paper bag album this planned for this April at our local Michaels.
I was never a big fan of Michael's products, but now I have even more of a reason to spend my craft budget at JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby.
In case anybody would like to contact Michaels, feel free to e-mail customer service Here.
