Years ago, I had a really cool sling backpack, but like the idiot person that I am, I threw it away when the zipper came off. I didn't realize at the time how rare it was (the stinkin' strap connects on the "wrong" side). Now, I'm thinking about trying to recreate it, but I'm not sure exactly how to go about it. Read more... )

I just winged this pair and was so happy with the result and found it so easy, I made a pattern to share with you guys. If you use it, please show me: I'd love to see them in other colors. :)

Hi ladies and gents, long time lurker, occasional poster here.

I really need help with a baby sling I'm sewing. It's the Simplicity pattern 3712, and the instructions aren't as clear as I'd like them to be. It has me gathering nearly 20 inches of fabric into less than 7. It's so thick! I've already broken a denim needle trying to go through it. Pictures after the cut...

And here's a photo of my first ever bleach stencil, I'm so proud of it:

It always happens: I'm browsing around online, I see something I adore, and then I think, "why buy that when I know I can make it?" And then the next question in my head is, of course, "how the heck do I make it?" Maybe y'all can help me with this one. I found this skirt while mucking around. I know it's a pretty simple crochet lace pattern, sort of a pineapple motif, which I can do. The thing I've never been able to do is make my own patterns. I've looked around for quite a while for crochet skirt patterns, finding other must-have skirt patterns in the process (that always happens, too), but haven't found anything remotely close. Can you help? TIA!

Maybe I'm losing my mind, but I swear that when I had my old PC, I had downloaded a free program that allowed me to turn any picture into a cross-stitch pattern. I remember opening a pic of my cousin's dog and starting it but never finishing it, but what was so cool was that really, the pattern wasn't just for cross-stich, it was like a mini grid that could be used for tons of different crafts. I don't remember what the program was called and can't find it anywhere.

Anyways, what I'm really looking for is that program, or something like it, so that I can turn pictures into patterns for square-stich beaded bracelets and coin purses for gifts. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

My sister's 8th grade promotion is ina few months, and she wants me to make her a dress. I wasn't sure about what kind of dress to make her, but I knew she would want somethign different than all the other kids in her class. She loves Anime, and the Japanese culture, so I decided to make her a lolita dress.

Do you any of you guys know where I can finda pattern for a Lolita dress either online, or in a store? I know of the one floating in the craftster.org forums, but I was wondering if there are any that you have used personally, and found easy and enjoyable.

Also, are there any tips that you could give me on making a dress for someone that isn't yourself? I plan on making a 'dummy' out of tape next time my sister somes over, and I'm going to make it so that it's slightly adjustable in size just in case she grows or has another growth spurt (they do that at this age, you know!) and suddenly slims down.

Wow. This was long. :]

Does anyone know of a pattern or can point me in the right direction of one for this dress?
