Vinyl record jewelry display
Apr. 10th, 2008 10:19 amI've searched the memories and Craftster and have a basic idea of what I'm doing, but I wanted to check with the experts before I do something stupid.
I have a couple of vinyl records that are no good for listening, so I've decided to alter them into jewelry displays, specifically for an upcoming craft fair. I've read the right way to heat them and such for making bowls, but what I'm wanting to do is bend the lower 1/4 or 1/3 of the record perpendicular to the rest of it so it will stand on its own. Does anyone have ideas on the best way to do this? I was thinking I'd put it flat on a layer of aluminum foil in the oven and then try to use my hands/tongs/whatever will grip and not burn me to bend while it's still warm. Is there a better way to do this? Do you think it will even work? I also plan to poke holes or cut out notches for hanging earrings, necklaces and such. Should I do that before or after heating it in the oven? For the holes, I've read that burning them is best. Do you think that's right, or can I just use a nail and hammer? I plan to spray paint it, too, which I assume makes sense to do after.
Thank you in advance! Sorry for the text-only-ness. My digital camera died recently. :( I will post pictures of the finished product if all goes well.
