what was your first sewing project with your machine?

i want to start using my machine, however i havent used it for 10 years or so... and i don't remember much.
my goals, once i get the hang of things again: to alter clothes, make cute things for myself and friends such as bags, and perhaps even make a clothing article from scratch.

there are tons of sewing tutorials out there, but they all look pretty challenging (ie : over my head) right about now.... so i want to know: what is the easiest project to start out with? i will probably need a basic tutorial. i'm not picky about what the project is... i just need to ease myself in.
