Maternity dress
Jun. 7th, 2008 08:33 pmI made a new maternity dress from a non-maternity pattern. I made a couple changes to the pattern, and I'm very pleased with the results.

I used http://simplicity.com/dv1_v4.cfm?design=2882

To make it more maternity, I increased the width of the front skirt piece by about 4 inches, so the gathered area is fuller. I also cut the back into a deep V instead of it coming straight across my shoulders. Luckily, I didn't even need to use a zipper, it just puls on over my head. The one thing I would do differently would be to raise the pockets by about 5 inches. My arms aren't very long, and the pockets fall right where my hands naturally fall at my sides anyway. Also, after taking these pictures, I reduced the pocket opening by about 4 inches. My hands just didn't reach that far, so I didn't need the pockets gaping open that much. But basically, I love everything about this dress, and I can't wait to make a few more. I think it will still work after I have the baby, but I may need to take in some of the fullness so I won't still look pregnant.

(My husband kept telling me "Bigger smile!" over and over until I finally cheesed like a maniac. Turns out that's exactly what he was after, haha.)
