Jun. 13th, 2008 11:58 amHey there, crafters.
I just moved, so I've been busy doing moving stuff instead of sewing lately, lame. I had some stuff on which to catch up that no one enjoys [like hand-mending a 50 year-old quilt that was starting to shred EVERYWHERE & making some new curtains for my room].
I did remember that I made something a while ago that I forgot to post, ANDDD I made a dress yesterday for our apartment-warming party tomorrow.

First, the knitting accessory.
I picked up knitting near the end of this past winter, & plan on returning to it after the weather cools enough to where I can stand having wool on my lap.
Living with your grandmother is a crafter's godsend. She had nearly one hundred pairs of knitting needles [no joke! I just sorted through them all] that I was welcome to use at any time. Since I was moving out, I wanted to snag myself a set to have the leisure to knit at will. But how to hold them?
Ah! This is how!

I made the pattern up as I went along. It was very easy, but let me tell you, stitching the division pockets for each pair of needles was hell. Anyway, it happily stores my needles until I'm ready for them.
Next project! I picked up a dress with a wonderful strawberry pattern on it from the thrift store. Problem? It was a XXXL [when I'm usually a M, depending on brand]. Oh, & it was set up like a nineties kindergarten teacher's jumper. You know the kind. Big ugly pockets on the outside, thick straps, weird collar & too many unmatching details, drop waist that isn't dropped at the right spot...yech! But it was, like, two bucks, so I had to buy it.
This obviously isn't it, but if for some reason you don't know the kind of dress to which I'm referring, I mean something similar to this:

[I have no idea who that is, so don't ask me. Thank you, Google images!]
SO! This is what I turned my dress into!

ROFL @ the Orange Bird head [from my favorite change bank, FYI], but when it's near 90 degrees for a week straight, I do not look in any sort of form to be photographed. I left the pockets, but added gathers to bring them to the front. Cut down the faux-button front to have two instead of four, & made it strapless.

And it has a fun little tie in the back for detail. And a small piece of elastic to keep the other part of the back taut.
