Dye Question

A little over a month ago I dyed a few things. Ever since then I've been learning some lessons the hard way, like not to wash the dark purple dyed items with other things (I know, a no-brainer) and most recently to lay them out without touching anything else after washing. Is it at all normal for the dye still to be washing out so much yet retaining its color and what can I do to stop it from bleeding onto other materials on contact? Thank you.
