glue question

craftgrrlI made a Susan Sto Helit costume a year or so ago, and a tiny mod clay death of rats.
I am thinking of reusing that costume for a party tonight, but the modeling clay skull is refusing to stay hot glued to the stick I used for the rats body under his cloak, and the death of rats head keeps popping off!
Anyone have any tips for how to get his head to stick hot glue doesn't seem to want to work.
