crochet question

so, i've been looking online all day and in the memories here; however, i have not been able to find anything remotely similar to what i need help with. i am work on a midterm project for a textiles class that involves crocheting. i am trying to make a 3D form.  i am looking for a video or instructions on how to "build a wall" (which is what my teacher called this technique). i'm not entirely sure what this technique is traditionally called in the crochet world. i'm trying to build up from the flat shape i have already created.

any help is appreciated!

i found the technique i was talking about.. it's (slip stitch) surface crochet!
