Bottles-Mosiacs

Ok, I live in a fairly run down neighborhood (moving next week), but in the meantime our yard and the streets around us are littered with glass alcohol bottles, like 40's 20's aiplane bottles and others. I was thinking about picking them up, washing them out and turning them into Vases. But I want to do mosiac on them. I have never done it before so I was just wondering a few things. I've seen diffent things used for mosiac- like tiles and plates and studd. What would you suggest? And when I want to stick the actual pieces on the bottles, do I use just the grout or do I buy special stuff? And where can I get plates/tiles for cheap? Does Home Depot/Lowes sell damage tiles at a discount?
