craftgrrl | need movie editing help

I just filmed myself creating a journal page, downloaded it from the digital movie camera, and tried to import it into iMovie to edit it. But I got an error that the movie was too big, and I needed to break it into smaller sections, and then import each section and hook them together.

I'm on a Mac, and my iMovie is old--it's iMovie 4.0

The error said to import it into QuickTime Pro to break them into sections. Is there a better way to do it--I don't want to buy Quit Time Pro unless I have to, and it's the best way to do it.

I was so excited to use my video camera and make a movie, and now I'm bummed that I can't edit it . . .
