Man's Fans
Sep. 8th, 2009 07:01 amIt was a busy weekend! A visit to the Canadian National Exhibition, golf, touring the Niagara Escarpment, combined with the usual complement of cooking, cleaning, and the added pressure of back to school madness - as you can imagine, I didn't have a lot of time to spend in the sewing room, so I pulled out an old WIP that I'd called Man's Fans and decided to quilt it already!

because of the fabrics I used. I think that most of you know that I rarely use quilting cotton, and even more rarely would I ever use "quilting cotton" only - and this quilt was no exception. It was made of leftover scraps of the quilt I made called Autumn Steals In
some scraps of African cottons, bits of silk and satin, upholstery weight silk for the binding and for the borders and back, chocolate brown stretch satin.
That stretch satin was a pip to quilt!

When I was done, at first I was unhappy with it because the nature of the material didn't allow me to get a perfectly flat back (it lived up to its name and continually stretched as I quilted), but BSP pointed out that if I work with fabrics other than cotton, I'm going to have to realize that the quilting will have results other than if I worked with cotton, and that the beauty of those fabrics is in the way that they quilt up.
Suddenly, I saw that the back was beautiful.

That BSP is so smart! :)
Thanks for looking!
