Transfer making:

Materials:

Self-Laminating Glossy Sheets (these might also be called contact paper depending on the manufacturer)
Glossy pictures (from a magazine
A shallow pan (I used a disposable cake tin)
Hot water
Scissors

Instructions.

Cut out the image you would like to transfer. Black and white images work best, but other color images will transfer nicely. Cut out a piece of transfer paper a little bigger than your image. Peel back the backing of the laminating paper and put your magazine image on the sticky side face down. Now rub the paper with either your hand or something smooth to get rid of any air bubbles. Be careful not to scratch the paper too much. You will be able to tell by looking at the picture (laminated side) when all of the air bubbles are gone. Don't rush this part because any part that hasn't been properly rubbed will not come through when the process is complete. Once you have properly rubbed the image trim any excess you have around the picture, or the laminate.
Fill the pan with about 2 inches warm water. Don't use boiling water, just used hot tap water. Set your image (laminate side down) in the water (making sure it sinks to the bottom) and let it sit there for 2-3 minutes. While the image is still in the water when the time is up gently rub the back of the image (laminate side still down) so that the paper comes off. If the paper sticks, try a corner where it might be easy to peel off. When all the paper is off of the laminate it should feel smooth like plastic, and yet retain the ink from your transferred image. Dry the laminate with either a paper towel or a rag. You can store these between layers of wax paper.
Transfers are great when backed by various sorts of paper, or done in collage work. Black and whites work great against colored transfers or glitter.
