Encaustic Wax Paintings...
Jan. 1st, 2010 01:45 pmHullo!
I'm back (I hope that's okay).
I've been quite busy creating more paintings with wax, so ta daaaaaaa

"Budgie Posing for Portrait"

"Flying Machine in Atmosphere"
-For this one I decided to explore a shadow box
-The background sky is wax that I blew around with the heat gun and played with forever
-The silhouette of the flying machine is done on the front plexi panel - which creates interesting shadows

"A Night of Lights: Carousel"
-This was inspired by a piece of newspaper that I had laid down on my table that I mucked up as I worked
-I decided to collage it down, and build up even more wax to play with texture
-This is definitely a direction I want to run in - newspaper based works

"Brown Bird With Pattern"
-This was such a strange bird, that I couldn't resist
-This painting gave me a really hard time - I just couldn't get it right, so it went through many stages

Mini Encaustic Grouping
-Top Left: I collaged down a leaf off my house plant. Wax has a natural preservative quality, so I wanted to play with the idea of embedding organic matter into it
-Bottom Left: used carbon paper to transfer my drawing into the wax
-Right: I laid down a patterned wallpaper, and transfered my graphite drawing into the wax
Hope you enjoyed looking!
All thoughts are welcome
