i finished a hat! i started knitting a version of A Beautiful Mess' Snow Day Hat maybe 30 hours ago, and in 6 or 7 knitting sessions, i finished it just now : )

it's basically perfect, and i'm proud of myself for translating a crochet tutorial into a knitted object. basically the instructions were to measure your head jawbone to jawbone, and make a rectangle that long, and make it wide enough to connect at the back of your head. then sew up the back, add some braided danglies, put it on, tie a bow and you're done :D

i had to figure out my gauge, though, since i was using needles that were bigger than the yarn i was using recommended (assuming that was even the right packaging i was reading, lol). i made a gauge swatch (for the first time ever!) and then i had to do some math and cast on the right number of stitches. after the first two rows with (60) stitches stretching right across both needles, i measured, and i was kind of horrified because instead of the 19" or whatever inches it was supposed to be, it was more like 24" D: but i kept knitting, assuming i had the stitches spread apart too far. as the rows were knitted, the fabric got tighter and it measured 19" exactly. i am good!

side 2

i continued to knit it over the morning and night and morning again and now it's done and it fits perfectly :)
the pattern is super simple and can be translated to knit, crochet or sewing, so i think everyone should make their own version!
