Iron-on Transfers
Jan. 21st, 2010 03:56 pmI would like to make my daughter some shirts with iron on transfers on them.
I've read through the memories and didn't find an answer to my question.
I can print them at home on my computer or I can have them printed at the copy place for $3.49 for an 8x11. I figure I may be able to get a couple characters on each sheet. The sheets run about $10 for 8 transfer sheets around here and i'm worried about screwing them up and wasting money.
Shes going to be 2 next month, so I didn't need them to be huge graphics or anything. She likes a bunch of the characters from Nick Jr, so I was thinking about taking their images and printing them out. They have iron-on transfer images on their page (http://www.nickjr.com/printables/toodee-iron-on.jhtml). That's just Toodee, but there are a bunch of them so I wouldn't be stealing images and printing them or anything.
The problem is finding the t-shirts. I can order them on Hanes.com, for $3.99 colored. Or if I pick the bulk white packs, they come out to $1.20 for the tank tops (http://www.hanes.com/Hanes/Products/Kids-Hanes/Kids_InfantandToddler-Hanes/Kids_toddlerUnderwear-Hanes/21857.aspx) and $1.40 for the t-shirt.
Now can I buy those and dye them with Rit dye and then put a transfer on them? I figure I can dye at least 3 shirts/tank tops with each pack of Rit dye...so even if I pay $2 for a pack of power, it still comes out to less than $2 a t-shirt....Wal-Mart sells colored t-shirts for $3.50, but they are the Garnimals brand and I didn't know how they worked with the transfers.
If I pay to print out the designs at my local printing place for $3.49 a sheet and can only get 2 designs per page, I still come out at less than $4 a shirt....with characters on them. I know a lot of babies who have birthdays coming up, so I could make some as gifts as well.
