Couch Picker-upper, pt. 2
Jan. 23rd, 2010 09:12 pmSo yesterday I asked for ideas, and I did some more research and hit the shops today and you wouldn't believe what you can find on clearance! Anyway, so here's the pictures I promised.
This is what we had to work with:

The color was the main inspiration. I actually really like it, really reminds me of autumn. The initial idea was to get some unbleached canvas and use fabric paint to stencil designs on it, then wrap it around all the cushions and secure it to the backs somehow. This idea was sort of a compromise between some article I found somewhere online about using safety pins (also, honeybee_craft's comment) and kept in mind what igz00 said about sheets when I went to the stores. What I found were some beautiful designer curtain runners in the perfect color on clearance for $3.99 each! I used safety pins to affix them for now, but I plan to go back later and sew them together and then reattach them possibly with stitches. We'll see. For now, though, it really makes a difference in the look.
Finished:

As I said in my earlier post, I love those Better Homes and Gardens magazines and their ideas about coordinating things. So when I was at the shops getting my curtain runners, they had a sale on picture frames and (I have a great memory for color) I picked up frames to match the color of the couch. I had some old faux autumn leaves (said it reminded me of autumn, remember? :D) and I used them and some scrapbook paper to make some nice chic wall ornaments to go with the couch.

Altogether now:

I really love it! Next up, I'm going to be making some pillows to go with it...
Thanks for the tips, ladies. :D Happy crafting!
