Hello, craftgrrls.

Spring is so much more motivating for crafts, isn't it? I'm just so glad winter is finally breaking. The nice weather's been inspiring, so I've been trying to be busy lately.

Mermaid's Tide

"Her favorite thing to do was to let herself wash up on shore, where she could comb the bits of sea left by the waning tides. She would find pieces lost by Oriental trade ships, tiny orbs of glass, broken strips of golden chain, beautiful shells made by creatures of the deep... these she would make into jewelry to adorn her alabaster neck..."

The Autumn Stone

This is the first time I've ever wrapped a stone in that style, using a helpful tutorial here: http://www.tumbleweedglass.com/cab.html

The stone is Brazilian fluorite (truly gorgeous stone) wrapped in gold-tone craft wire. It is embellished with amber, glass, and carnelian beads on different lengths and sizes of brass chain. This was also my first experiment with an asymmetrical necklace design (I think I was still a little conservative), but I like the way it came out. It reminds me of autumn, my favorite season. :)

Morning in the Taj Mahal Gardens

A wedge of jadeite enclosed in silver and semi-precious beads: peridot, yellow jade, malachite, and bloodstone. It gives the impression of bright, warm days spent in the shade of lush gardens. Another experiment with an asymmetrical design.

Like Clockwork

Time moves in a circular path, and its greatest measure is change. Pearls grow from grains of sand in the bellies of oysters; minerals collect, solidify, and metamorphose with centuries of heat and pressure. This is a piece meant to glorify the passage of time, and how we are all bound to change.
