craftgrrl | DIY ball - suggestions?

I am interested in making a clear/semi-translucent ball, along the lines of this but handmade. I will be filling it with plush items, which is why I need to make one rather than buying one. I'm thinking of buying the ball I linked to and using it as a base/form to create mine... would wrapping it with a layer of clingwrap and then covering that with clear glue be strong enough? The only other method I can think of is papier mache, but that isn't transparent.

Any suggestions or requests for clarification are welcome. Thanks in advance.
