Crafternoon!
May. 6th, 2010 12:51 pmHey kids,
I'm in the concept process of running a craft event at a local community centre and i'd like your input!
It's to encourage those who participate in their own crafts and to come share their love for all things handmade but also to support and expose a new zine hub that has opened up.
so my question to you is what would YOU like to see at this type of event? what would you enjoy?
We have access to our own screen and paints for screen printing, a badge maker, zine making stuff of course, a printer/scanner etc. And a budget!and we could bring in other materials for the day of course.
I've been playing around with some ideas for workshops like..
badge making
zine making
maybe a dj lesson (i'm not so sure about this but it kind of sounds fun)
screen printing (might not be doable with a big turn out)
stenciling
twirling lessons
i've also considered having two short talks. one on the history of zines and i was also thinking it could be cool to track down a local small business owner that makes and sells their own art/craft and have them give a talk about how they got started.
there would also be free food! and i'm really interested in DIY things, teaching people how they can use every day skills for their own benefit. I want people to walk away with a new passion for arts and crafts and maybe some new skills and ideas about how they could be using craft more as a potential lifestyle not just a hobby!
What do you think?!!! All suggestions and ideas very, very welcome!
