Wood burning!
Feb. 7th, 2011 01:19 pmYesterday I did some wood burning. This kit had been collecting dust for too many months. It was my first attempt and I think it came out ok but because it was painted after it was burned it took away from the burned effect. I couldn't leave it plain because I didn't like the untreated look of the wood around the design. Next time I think I will paint the wood then burn something into the surface.
I started with the pencil sketch on wood and used the finest point to etch it in. I kept thinking that it would make nice designs on skin but would hurt like a bloody sonofabitch. If I had to compare the technique I would say it is most like using pens.

Next I used the fatter tips to burn in the detail. I wish I had painted the background before I did all of this. It may have saved me a splinter in my little finger as well as looking cooler in the end. Perhaps I will rework the design a little on one of the other 2 woodblocks I have.

Then I painted. Perhaps I should have left it alone because I HAD consumed a few beers. Superbowl isn't anything I am interested in but I did partake in the snacks and drinks.

And there you have the final product. Still haven't gotten around to sealing my paintings.. must ... remember.
