Fixing up my Computer Desk

I have to older desk that I would like to transform into something that works for me. Currently it has a side of drawers that are hard to slide in and out. I was thinking I could remove the drawers and insert shelves for my hard drive, etc. Any ideas on where I could find web sites on fixing furniture? Eventually after I deteremind the structure I would like to do something cool to the surface.

Any ideas?
