Banners

I'm working on a set of four Lenten banners to hang along the sides of the sanctuary at my church.

When I started, I expected to get a fair amount of help.  You know, the classic 'sewing circle', where a bunch of us would gather together to work on them, have a lovely time and finish them in a couple of weeks.  Why I expected that, I don't know.  One other woman and I are doing them, and since we both work, our time to work together has been extremely limited.  We got the basics cut out - the banner backgrounds, headers and crosses will be the same on all four.  The lettering will also be the same; our daughters cut out half of them on the one Saturday they helped.  As Lent is about to start (tomorrow), there is some urgency to complete them, so all my crafting time and a chunk of my housework time has been spent on that.  The first banner is done, the second is started.  My cohort is supposed to be working on the third, and we have agreed on the pattern for the fourth.  I am fortunate to have a husband who is not only supportive but handy.  He cut dowels for the rods and attached chains for hanging.  So here's a picture of the first banner.  I am quite pleased with it, particularly as I've never done anything along these lines before.  It's all felt, by the way. The background and letters are deep purple.
