Kids' crafts
Mar. 13th, 2011 03:26 pmI have two boys, 2.5yo and 5.5yo and they love arts and crafts. I'm always looking for inspiration, and thought I'd share some of the stuff we do. Here's a roundup of things I've made for them, things we've made together, and just general easy kid art projects. :) I get most of my ideas from these three sites:
crafty crow
that artist woman
art projects for kids
we also have a book called 501 tv-free activities. it contains a lot of fun stuff, not just crafts and arts but things you can do outside as well, instead of just watching tv.
here's a little roundup of our crafts from the last few months or so, including links where I found tutorials and such:
1. we made penguins.

2. these are norweigan woven paper heart baskets. I made them as valentine baskets for my kids for school.

3. inside of the basket. i used cardstock, which was a little harder for samuel to weave, BUT more importantly passed the toddler destructive test, as it proved difficult to rip.

4. we do a lot of fingerpainting. here i had the boys make peacocks. then we framed them and gave them to my parents as christmas gifts

5. 5.5yo's finished peacock

6. 2.5yo's finished peacock

7.. toilet paper jetpacks and homemade superhero capes

8. gingerbread house. i love the look of concentration on their faces

9. finished house

10. we made thumb print snowmen. we made them into tags for christmas presents

11. decorated after the paint dried.

12. my oldest even tried making a christmas tree

13. we left one for santa

14. this was versatile becausse in february we also made thumbprint valentine cards too

15. reindeer candy canes

16. we did collages, great activity because it involved tearing paper!

17. 5.5yo's finished collage. it's an upside down monkey

18. we made our own rainbow fish. i make the kids cut out the big stuff like the fish shapes. also, glitter is the devil. i am still finding glitter all over the house.

19. my boys are big into superheros. here I made them felt superhero masks (much more duable and softer than paper!) then they decorated them up with glue and beads and embellishments

19. cape and mask together. who is that masked man?

20.this toolbelt tutorial with handsome model ;)

21.. close up of the toolbelt. seriously, very easy project, probably only took me half an hour to do both! I used my son's old tae kwon do belts instead of doing a fabric belt because I wanted something stronger

22. 2.5yo's toolbelt. he picked the elephant fabric from my scrap fabric pile

23. my 5.5yo really loves to draw

24. so we made a hanging art wall, inspired by this

25. close up of the star clothes pins

thanks for looking! i told you it was pic heavy. :)
