Since we began, my theatre company (non-profit community group that a friend and I founded a few years ago) have needed a banner as we often take part in parades, carnivals and festivals. We did have one lady offer to make one, but when she brought it over, it was a dog-eared torn bedsheet with spidery writing at all angles.
We looked into getting a PVC banner printed, they cost far more than we could ever afford.
So then it was down to a lot of head scratching.

Finally I bought a huge Devon county flag (luckily we are called The South Devon Players, specialise in local stuff!, so it is totally relevant).  I printed out the letters on the PC, (450pt as font size) then spread the flag out in the garden.

Laying the paper over the flag in the relevant places, I traced around the edge of the letters with one of those huge perminent marker pens that usually drive you insane by soaking through the paper - thus leaving faint traces on the flag.

I then used red poster paint mixed with PVA glue (an old standard way of set-painting that we use, as mixed with the glue, the paint doesnt flake off, and is basically water resistant) to paint in the letters, and let them dry, finally edging them with water-based enamel gold paint.

Et voila - it is now drying off in the back garden.
