Fourth Banner
Apr. 1st, 2011 01:53 pmWe completed the fourth Lenten banner last night. I had already done the basics - background, top and cross. June came over and brought a small grapevine wreath she'd gotten at a craft store. I will admit, I had something quite different in mind, but I've always specifically not wanted this to be just "my project", so I was happy that she wanted to take the lead on this banner. It took quite a bit of trial and error and discussion to come up with the final product. We attached the vine to the banner by wrapping wire around one end, poking it through the felt, running it along the back and bringing it back up to wrap around the other end. Then we realized that it didn't stand out visually very much from the background, so we cut the white felt in a semi-circle to put behind it. After that was glued on, we used another piece of wire to attach the bottom of the "crown" to the felt also. That way it won't get caught on things so easily. The pictures don't do it full justice but I think they will give you an idea of how it looks.
I've enjoyed working on the banners. They were a stretch of my craftwork and creativity. More importantly, they are a reminder for me - and others - of Christ's sacrifice and a thanks to God for it. Now that they are done, though, I am really looking forward to having time for my cross-stitch again.
Although, I do have this idea for an Easter banner...
