May. 12th, 2011 09:05 amI made a zippered and lined Kindle sleeve today.

I'm putting a
1) Cut out two of each the following pieces measuring 6 1/2 by 9 1/2 inches:
a) outer fabric
b) lining
c) scrap fabric
d) quilt batting

2) Stack your outer fabric right side up, your quilt batting under that, and your scrap fabric on the bottom. Quilt around some parts of your outer fabric. I used a floral print so I went around the petals and leaves. You can quilt any kind of design you'd like. It's best to start in the center of your fabric and work your way outward. Press your stacked fabrics flat with your hands while you quilt.

Pull all your thread ends that are hanging on the right side of your fabric through to the wrong side. Don't cut the ends after you've pulled them through.

To sew in the zipper, place your outer fabric right side up. On top of that, place your zipper with the zip tab facing down, then place your lining on top of the zipper, right side down. Sew in the zipper very close to the teeth edge.

Repeat this step for the other side of the zipper.
Top stitch both edges of the zipper taking care to not to catch your lining.

I pinned the lining down to avoid this from happening.

Open your zipper half way. Line up and pin your outer fabrics with right sides together, line up and pin your lining with right sides together.

Stitch around the outer edges 3/8ths of an inch all around but leaving an opening of about 4 inches on the longer side of the lining edge.

Pull the outer fabric through the opening in the lining.

Pin and then stitch the opening of the lining.

Tuck the lining into the sleeve and give it a good press.
