Circle Skirt (tutorial courtesy of MADE)

I made myself a circle skirt, tutorial courtesy of Dana from MADE.

It was really easy to make, up until the last step – to attach the elastic to the skirt. I have had near ZERO experience sewing elastic onto non stretchy fabric, so this was definitely an eye-opener. When i was sewing the elastic onto the skirt, the thread kept puckering. I hesitated and thought for a second i was meant to use elastic thread, but nowhere on the tutorial did it say that. I also sent Dana a message after the skirt was made clarifying the type of thread to use. She said normal thread will do fine.
Guess i just need to practice sewing onto elastic more. Practice makes perfect!
I also added a lining underneath the skirt, which is essentially making TWO skirts, with the lining shorter than the outer skirt.
And finally, I used 3" wide black elastic. You can get it at craft stores like Jo-Ann’s. The width can be about 2" – 3" wide depending on how wide you like your waistband to be.

My husband took a picture of me twirling around in the skirt, so you can barely see the muslin lining underneath. I apologize for the bad photo-taking. Major epic fail.
Thanks for looking. Any helpful tips on elastic waistband sewing?
