Aug. 31st, 2011 05:31 pmI made a pet bed today using a vellux blanket I didn't have need for anymore, and a fluffy throw that is being replaced by a hand knit cabled blanket I have in the works.

I'm placing a tutorial

I used a queen sized blanket for the insert, I just folded it until I had the size and thickness I wanted, then I trimmed off the hems.

I used this very thick and sturdy thread and a really long needle for the next step.

Starting in one corner, stitch through all layers of the blanket and tighten and knot off the thread. Tack each corner and place a final tack in the center.

Like this.

Measure out the size of cover you'll need and again, trim off *one end* of the hemmed blanket. Save the hemmed piece, you'll use those to make ties later.

Using the remaining hemmed egde of the blanket, cut out and sew the side and back seams of the cover, leaving the hemmed edges open.

Using the hemmed parts you cut off the blanket, hand stitch 4 pieces in place, two on top, two on the bottom, in line with each other. You'll be able to remove the cover for washing and the ties will look pretty and or give your cat something to play with.
During this part, your cat may say 'Oh! A bed! For me! Let me just try it out and make sure it works!'
It works...
