Four nautical pieces
May. 17th, 2012 09:10 amI am attempting to get a spot at a nautical festival nearby and am working on lots of new pieces based on sea life, boating, fishing, and beaches and water. One of them is not jewelry, it is mixed media artwork that I usually post on my other journal (
xenaeilonwy) but I don't feel like switching journals just to post one picture so you're getting that here too. (:

Finding Your Way. This is the second piece in my nautical line. Those colors are used as universal "this is related to boating" colors around here and often show up on nautical shops and marinas as well as seafood restaurants. (: The compass is nonfunctioning, it's just there for decoration, and the chain on the compass' side looks bulkier than on the other side because it has to accomodate the compass. It gives the piece some assymetry when it's being worn.

Cardinal Direction. Another compass piece, this shows how far you can go to make a compass look fashionable. (: Again, it's not functional unfortunately, just a charm. It can easily synch up with a steampunk wardrobe as well as any fresh-looking summer wardrobe. The colors are inspired by steampunk and the chain is from my old "Navigation" piece.

This is one from last year, Pirate Treasure, and it's aimed at both genders. This is probably one of my favorites and one of the most fun to make. I know most male/unisex necklaces don't have beads and crystals, but I was like hey, why do only women get to have that fun glittery stuff on their jewelry? I think the men deserve something special too (: I tried to make it as appealing to both genders as possible and my male friends say I did a good job at it. I used red and gold for treasure and blue for the seas.

And finally, here's Seafoam. I made this while upset one night and I needed to use art to get my mind off things. That's a real sand dollar I got from a shell shop a looooong time ago, and those two shells are from the beach. The picture is VERY heavy and bulky unframed but I will be getting a frame for it for the festival.
I'll put the new necklaces up on my journal soon and I'm gonna have a lot more nautical things over the next month. including keyrings for boat keys. (: (Where I'm from 85 percent of the population owns at least one boat. We don't, 'cause my dad said he doesn't want one xD)
