I made these wall hangings for my mom’s living room.

I think they turned out really nicely! Here’s a step-by-step rundown and also a picture of the second one.

1. Cut two pieces of cardboard as big as you would like and glue them together. You could use one piece if you’d like, but I used two for extra stability. It makes this much more difficult to bend, but it hardly adds any weight. I used cookie boxes from my job and a razor to cut them apart. I glued mine together with good old Elmer’s glue and let them dry under some heavy books.

2. Cut a piece of fabric a little larger than your cardboard.

3. Write whatever you’d like to write on the fabric with fabric markers. I actually did my designs freehand in pencil first, then went over them with fabric markers, but I had a tough time getting the stray pencil marks out after that. I ended up handwashing my fabric with OxyClean and a little detergent, which removed the pencil but faded the marker so I had to do the marker again so it wasn’t dull.

4. Attach your fabric to the cardboard, making sure your design is even in the front. I used hot glue and I only glued on the back, not on the side with the design, so the bumps didn’t show through.

5. Attach a simple bow to the top if you’d like. I just used two kinds of ribbon and hot glue to make those.

6. Attach flowers with hot glue. I bought fake hydrangeas from Michael’s and cut just the flowers off.

7. Attach a pretty ribbon for hanging.

8. Peel off all those annoying little hot glue strands.

DONE!

The design took me a little while, but once that was finished, this whole thing probably took 45 minutes to glue everything together for both of these. My mom loves them!

The second one has my parents' birthdays, my birthday, their wedding date, and my brother's birthday.
