May. 29th, 2002 11:51 amhello, i'm cera. i just joined 10 seconds ago.
i've been reading this community for a while, i do alot of crafting and sewing and other cant sit still kindof things.
i've recently discovered that my generally strong urge to craft and decorate goes into overdrive during the summer, so i've started some big projects.
my current crafts are mostly house related. i live in a large loft space. it's all open space. the rooms arent designated by walls, which makes it surprisingly hard to decorate and maintain.
it makes for some pretty off feng shui =)
the other dominant element in my house is blue. 1400 sq ft of bright blue concrete floors.
the book cases are varying shades of blue. the kitchen cabinets are a light seafoam. the blue is starting to be overwhelming, i've been feeling as though it's taking over, especially since we dont currently have any rugs.
so my major projects have been revolving around COLOR.
thus far i've worked on incorporating as many mirrors and plants into the decor as possible, painting, trimming, bordering, and diversifying all of the doors and door frames, a couple of murals, and inset shelves and pedestals into the walls for displaying art/sculptures.
i'm going to try to get some photos soon of the things i've been doing.
so far i'm the most pleased with the doors.
the front door is a wash of light blues and whites, all unblended, with a thin strip of metallic bronze paint in the inner frame, and a bronze sunburst around the peephole. i'm hanging a blue hamsa above it today.
the bathroom door is a rusty rosepetal color sponged over highgloss white. the effect is very soft and petal-ish. the bathroom itself i painted light yellow/marigold color, similar to the curtains in the main space. the accents in the bathroom are pale blue and dark red.
(no, really- it works)
around the door to the darkroom i'm working on a stencil border. i did a lot of hunting around for patterns that i liked that werent overly floral or cheesy. i couldnt find any that i liked, so i decided to make my own.
i did a drawing of a wisteria vine that went across a full page length wise, and mounted it on thin cardboard from the back of a notebook, then cut the stencil with an xacto knife.
i really liked making my own stencil. i've decided to try and do a few more.
my project for today is getting up into the loft space and painting/sponging the loft to make it my art room.
my next venture will be to learn to crochet!
okay this got really long. *retreat!*
