knitting??

Hi everyone. I just got my first pair of knitting needles, and wow, the FAQ has been awesome. theres oodles of websites for beginners like myself. Now, I'm not quite getting this casting thing, but mainly its because these needles keep slipping out of my hands. and well although in all the how to knit sites, they have these very detailed pictures, but sadly only the finger tips and needles. so... how in the heck do you hold these things?
