Quick intro: Hi, I'm Shar. I've been lurking but I finally joined. I mess around with cameras. I paint abstract and simple things. I crochet. And I'm slowly learning little techniques about book binding.
Moving on... Recently, someone made a post about making an ouiji board which really interested me. I'd go about making one myself, but I'm much too scared of them to put one together. However, it did click in my head after reading it that a Monopoly game would be fun to make. I was thinking of customizing one for my friend's 18th birthday, which is still a year away (because her seventeeth is only coming up this month), but I figure this way I can really think about it and not have to rush to make it..
(I wasn't sure if this was considered a "lengthy" post, so I snipped at it anyway with an lj-cut)
She's in love with stars. I was thinking of buying a board game at a thrift shop (or perhaps using matte board or something else sturdy) and painting it a dark blue, or perhaps black, to be the sky, then painting a huge moon in the middle. Each street would be instead a different constellation, and I could photoshop the money and cards and print those out onto cardstock. For the houses, I'm simply going to buy star-shaped beads.
However, I'm sort of stuck on what to use for the hotels. My sister said just to glue two star beads together, so they'd be taller, and I was thinking I could seek out different star beads instead for those. Also, I'm not sure what to use for the character pieces that you use to go around the board throughout the game. My boyfriend said it'd be cool if I could actually have metal pieces, but eh, don't know if I'll be able to buy/make those; and he suggested I should have the zodiac characters as the pieces, which is a lovely idea. :D Just don't know really how I'll go about doing this, or where I can find things to use for these.
Any ideas?
