crazy socks

I have this friend who loves octopi. She's been having a really hard time lately - with life in general - and I was trying to think of a way to cheer her up.

I was in the shower today thinking that I should make her a big octopus. It suddenly occured to me that I could use brightly colored socks to make the arms of the octopus - a whole bunch of brightly colored, crazy patterned, mismatched socks. Wouldn't that just be adorable?

So the question is, where do I get these items?

I could probably go to the Goodwill or other thrift store and see what I can find, as soon as I have a little bit of cash. But right now, I'm pretty cash-poor.

The thing is....... I don't need a PAIR of socks. I only need a BUNCH of socks that don't match. Where would I get my hands on UNMATCHED socks? (I mean, c'mon, we all know how socks are... there must be THOUSANDS of unmatched socks out there just waiting for me to make some sort of use out of them.... but where would I find them?)
